R Academy and Former Homeless Veteran Form National Road to Economic Recovery Task Force

We need to hear from those who have experienced homelessness

WASHINGTON - Byron Gordy and Tony Rankins will serve as co-chairs of the newly launched Road to Economic Recovery Task Force formed by R Academy. R Academy is a Denver based organization that helps revitalize disadvantaged communities while restoring dignity and hope to citizens who find themselves lost on the margins of society. Both Gordy and Rankins credit R Academy for changing the trajectory of their lives.

“The R Academy Road to Economic Recovery Taskforce is different from the many other task forces and commissions being formed,” said Gordy, “Most of the people on our task force are currently homeless or were actually at one point homeless. They are returned citizens and day laborers. They know what it means to live paycheck to paycheck. They’ve got to have a seat at the table in all this talk about rebuilding the economy.”

Rankins a veteran who suffered from substance abuse and endured homelessness, said that they launched the task force to examine the best way for the nation to return to economic prosperity. Rankins gained national attention when in January, he was recognized by President Donald Trump at the State of the Union.

The late Congresswoman Shirley Chislom said if you don’t have a seat at the table, bring a folding chair. The Task force led by Gordy and Rankins is going to do one better. They are building their own table and insist on being heard.

“R Academy is the perfect organization to lead conversations on how to get the nation back on its feet because every day, we work with people who are trying to get their lives on a good path forward,” said Rankins.

The goal of the task force is to offer guidance to the President, Congress, private industry and non-profits on how to best move America’s economy into prosperity while assisting the most economically vulnerable.

R Academy was founded by Travis Steffens a leader of the conscious capitalism movement. Over the last decade Steffens’ corporate citizenship has helped to move hundreds of people from homelessness.
